About Me

 My name is Vanessa Pulido and ever since I was a little girl I had always dreamed of talking amongst millions of people through the television screen, obviously my passion is journalism! I recently transferred into this major from public relations since I didn't really like the classes offered. Everything that I do revolves around some type of use of communication whether it is the public relations work for my organization or producing for my shows.

This is my fourth year here at the University of Texas at Austin and in that time I have founded and am president of an organization called College Parents Pursuing an Education. As of this year, 2014, I have successfully partnered up with Communities in Schools. Through my organization I have spoken at the capital and towards the Senator Kirk Watson as well as certain galas including Food for Thought this year.  I enjoy working with high school kids in low-income areas, I mentor and make speeches from grades 9-12.

I have been fortunate enough to be the Creator and Executive Producer for Texas Student Televisions (TSTV) entertainment talk show The Real Deal. There I host and produce the outgoing content as well as help current volunteers. I am also Executive Producer for Austin Underground which covers more on-location entertainment news. As of last year I was able to work at The Horn as a reporter where I cover stories throughout the Austin area. It may seem as though everything that I do is mostly broadcast related, but there is a creative writing edge to me.

When it comes to poetry I find myself engulfed in the metaphors and similes involved in that form of writing. It allows me to play with words and share my point of views towards certain issues and opinions. I created a blog one summer called Speaking the Truth where I upload different poems that correspond with certain issues that were going on and my emotions at that specific time.

As you can see I am extremely passionate about every form of news whether it is hard or soft. I prefer reporting on entertainment news since it isn't as conservative like the news. Although I do like to stay informed with news as constantly as possible, I usually look at the CNN website where I get my information.

When it comes to entertainment I enjoy watching What Not to Wear, Ellen, E News and so forth. I have a whole range of interests and mostly everything in the realm of communication is my favorite.

In the near future I see myself producing a television program as well as hosting. I am handy with editing on Final Cut and producing any form of news or entertainment.
